Mini Bloom #144 - Maple Bud Faded Cobalt / Spring Fling

Regular price £75.00 Sale

I came across the prettiest pod on the streets of East London in early spring.  I was on the way to the pool and picked it up, carried it home and wrapped it up.  The next day I was in the print studio and painted it.  I thought it was the start of a flower bloom.  Then I saw another shrub with the same pretty, birdlike blooms on them.  I took photos, asked friends on social media and finally arrived at the name of the pretty bloom which really wasn't a bloom at all, but the start of maple leaves.  The prettiest buds that become pretty leaves and later in the fall treat us again with a parade of warm colors.  Ooooh, I love a versatile bloom!

This is a hand painted piece ... I create this by painting directly onto a silkscreen and transferring the image to the paper beneath using a squeegee.  What I love about it are the imperfections and unexpected marks that occur by using this process, called a mono print (just one!)  I work out of a collective studio in East London called Print Club London.

This is part of the Spring Fling collection.  What's a SPRING FLING?  So many things - the mashup of the unexpected, random conversations with strangers on public transport, fresh blooms, inspiration that comes from looking up or looking down, a fresh perspective.  Laughing at yourself and lazy afternoons.  Marveling at the joy of what we once took for granted.  Bliss.

I do my best to capture the true colors of this original, but please note that colors may appear differently on your screen.

Due to the nature of the painting and then the screen printing process, there may be slight flaws that are part of the charm of an original, hand made monoprint.

23 cm x 23 cm / 9" x 9" with the image size 12 cm x 12 cm / 4.7" x 4.7"
